Water heater protection
HALO Heater Guardian Elite
The HALO Heater Guardian Elite protects the single most expensive plumbing appliance in the house. It sits on the cold feed to the water heater and does two things: filters out the sediment and rust that settle in a tank and clog a tankless heat exchanger, and inhibits the scale that shortens element and burner life.
Filter, then scale inhibitor
Incoming water first passes through a proprietary two-chamber filter that captures silt, dirt, rust and sediment. It then flows through a scale-inhibitor chamber that keeps dissolved hardness from crystallising onto the heat exchanger, elements or burner.
A reversible bracket lets it mount in either orientation for a tight spot, a liquid-filled pressure gauge shows when the filter is loading up, and a pressure-relief feature makes the filter change quick. It needs no electricity.

Tank or tankless
On a tank heater it slows sediment build-up on the bottom and scale on the element, so the tank holds capacity and lasts longer. On a tankless unit — which is far more sensitive to scale — it reduces how often the heat exchanger needs descaling. It is not a substitute for whole-home treatment, but it is inexpensive insurance for the heater.
